AEO

SEO and AEO: two ways to be discovered

Understand the difference between earning a click in search and being surfaced in an AI answer.

Two discovery surfaces

A Google search result typically offers a path to a page. An AI answer may mention a brand or cite a page while giving the reader a response. Those are different observations, so they need different evidence. A screenshot showing a citation is not the same thing as a search ranking.

Build on useful content

Start with a real question. Answer it clearly, bring original knowledge, and support important facts. Google says the existing SEO fundamentals apply to its AI Overviews and AI Mode. This does not mean that an article is guaranteed to appear, or that every AI platform uses the same selection process.

Make the answer specific to your brand

A useful article should have a reason to come from you. That might be first-hand product knowledge, a practical comparison, or a particular experience. Explain what you can substantiate and make the answer useful beyond a product pitch. Clear sections and relevant sources help the reader understand the substance.

Measure the outcomes separately

Use search impressions, clicks, and queries to examine Google discovery. For AI discovery, retain the actual observed answer, platform, question, and observation date before claiming a mention or citation. Neither observation alone proves revenue impact. Keep the measurement connected to the claim.
